Welcome
to the Phethean Family History and Genealogy web site.
This site links to
a new, graphical view of the Phethean Family Tree using the Open Source
"PhpGedView 4" graphical GEDCOM viewer (PhpGedView
web site). This excellent
product replaces the original text-based family tree which was proving
difficult to keep updated and integrated into the main website. For users who have slower
dial-up connections, a
text only version of this site
is available but these pages will not be kept updated and are based on data available up to 2004 only.
GEDCOM is an
acronym for GEnealogical Data COMmunications. It provides a flexible and
uniform format for exchanging computerized genealogical data, and
allows you to share files with other researchers who may not use the
same genealogy program. The advantage of using a GEDCOM viewer is that
I can now provide on-line data from ALL the names that I have
collected, rather than being restricted to generating a single
descendant tree based on a direct ancestor. Thus, disparate family
groups and individuals can now be searched for and viewed even if these
have yet to be connected into the main descendants tree. This is so
much easier to maintain as only one file now needs to be uploaded to
the web site in order to perform an update.
Data
Protection
The amount of data
that can be publicly viewed on this website may be limited due to
the various laws concerning privacy and data protection. Most people do not want
their personal data publicly available on the Internet. It could be
misused for spam or identity theft. For this reason I am no longer permitting access to the records of living persons - even to family members.
Anyone interested should cointact me directly via the "Contact Me" links.
Getting
Started
Navigating the site
is very simple - the "Family Trees" icon will direct you to the
graphical or plain-text views of the family tree. To aid preliminary
searching for an individual, select the Main
Surnames List
icon. This will present a list of ALL known names in the current family
tree and will link directly into the main GEDCOM viewer.
